Plitvice Lakes National Park

Plitvice Lakes are biggest and oldest National Park in Croatia, one of the UNESCO’s World Heritage natural sites. Park’s 16 cascade lakes connected by tall, white waterfalls are fantastic, breath-taking sight. The waters flowing over the limestone and chalk have, over thousands of years, deposited travertine barriers, creating natural dams which in turn have created a series of beautiful lakes, caves and waterfalls. Highest lake, Proscansko is at 639 m and lowest, Novakovica-brod is at 503 m above sea-level. Park’s biggest attraction is impressive Big Waterfall, 78 meters high.

Autumn

Definitely the best season at the lakes. Nature itself is calming down and settling for winter sleep. Birds are getting ready to move south. Leaves are turning colors due to cold nights and frost. Number of different tree species give this landscape millions of colors. Paths covered in fallen foliage are ideal for long walks by idyllic autumn lakes.

Winter

Winter is worthy experience for any tourist. Whole area has a lot of snow and stays very low in temperatures due to specific climates making waterfalls, including the big one, look like blue-colored icy walls. Winter visitors are often surprised by otter crossing their path in search for food. Paths covered in snow are calling you to walk on them. Ski center is very close to our house and we are always open for hot drinks and small talk.

Spring

Lakes wake up in spring time. Melted snow raised all the water levels. Fish came back close to surface and became visible again. Fresh flower scent, waking forest and clear mountain air are good for both body and spirit.

Summer

Summer on lakes is rich with life. Waterfalls are humming, birds are singing, forest gives you perfect shade to get away from sun and heat. This time of year is most visited, tourists from around the world get attracted by lakes. Everything is full of life.
